2010

In early September 2010, five mechanical engineering students and one electrical engineering student from the Universidad de los Andes entered the NASA Lunabotics Robotic Mining Competition, forming the first Robocol team. 


2011

  • Robocol took part in its first competition, NASA's Robotic Mining Competition: Lunabotics 2011, where it won the Joe Kosmo Award for Excellence for placing 19th out of 70.    
  • Created the Robotics & Rocketry Science Club project with Maloka, which explained basic physics concepts to children and involved building and launching water rockets and robots.

2012

2012

  • Robocol participated in its second competition, NASA's Robotic Mining Competition: Lunabotics 2012 where it won the Joe Kosmo Award of Excellence for placing 9th out of 55.

  • Won first place in the Best Use of Media category.
    Robocol won third place in the Presentation and Demonstration category.

  • Won the CIMANDES distinction award.

  • The event "Mini Lunabotics Mining Competition: Meet, Learn and Win" was created. With the aim of motivating and encouraging school children to study STEM careers.

2012

2013

  • Robocol participated in its third NASA Robotic Mining Competition: Lunabotics 2013 where it won the Joe Kosmo Award of Excellence for 4th place out of 56.
  • It won first place in the Best Use of Media category.
    Won third place in the Presentation and Demonstration category.
    The welcome activity "Your first day at university, your first robot" was held for first semester students of Electronic, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
  • At the Gimnasio Campestre School, a water rocket workshop was held called "Reaching the sky with water rocks" with the aim of introducing children and young people to space exploration.
    At the Uniandes kindergarten in Bogotá, Colombia. The children were exposed to the work of Rocobol and they played at digging with LunaBot.
  • An Android workshop was held for students from the Universidad de los Andes to design applications to control a LunaBot.
  • The second version of the "Mini Lunabotics Competition: Learn, design, build" was held. The aim was to give students an introduction to robotics using the Lego Mindstorms kit.
  • At the Universidad de los Andes, the workshop "The experience of an astronaut" was held where students were able to replicate the experience of an astronaut in outer space.

2014

  • Robocol took part in the first edition of the European Rover Challenge 2014 where it won the Special Award for its good performance.
  • The Martian Rover Deimos was developed. In addition, Robocol won the prize for the best presentation and written report.
  • On 7 January 2014 Noticias Caracol broadcast Robocol live in the "People who put their soul into it" section.
  • Through dynamic workshops at the Maria Madre de los Niños Foundation, research and technological development was promoted for children whose rights have been violated.
  • The development of the concept of Robocol's first underwater robot of biological interest (exploration of aquatic ecosystems, shipwrecks, rubbish removal) and industrial interest (operations on offshore oil platforms) is initiated.

2015

  • Robocol took part in the second edition of the European Rover Challenge 2015. The Martian Rover Phobos was developed. It was ranked 12th out of 41 teams.
  • A Robotics workshop was held at the Association of Graduates of Universidad de los Andes by the Robocol group. In addition to this, Autodesk Inventor, Java, Virtual Reality and Android courses were held for school children.
  • A Uniandes robotics education programme aimed at children and young people called Domobotics Mission 2015 was held with the aim of challenging the creativity and skills of the participants through challenges that take place in the home (gardening, home organisation, personal assistance) and which will be carried out by robots built by the students themselves. Six schools from Bogotá participated.

2016

  • The second version of the Uniandes robotics education programme aimed at children and young people called Domobotics Mission 2016 is held with the aim of challenging the creativity and skill of the participants through challenges that are developed on the moon and that will be carried out by robots built by the students themselves. Training is provided in basic electronics, projects, programming and other subjects.
  • Research and development of a drone project for Colombian agriculture begins with the support of the Cimandes chapter of Uniandinos.

2017

  • The third edition of the Uniandes robotics education programme aimed at children and young people, Domobotics Mission 2017, was held with the aim of challenging the creativity and skills of the participants through challenges that take place in the home (gardening, home organisation, personal assistance) and which will be carried out by robots built by the students themselves. Various training courses were held on projects, design, power and traction, electronics, motors and communications.
  • A new rover was developed with the first rocker bogie and a new communication system using mini-directional antennas and LiPo batteries.
  • Two serial manipulators were designed, one for tool collection with 3 DoF and one for high precision tasks with 7 DoF.

2018

  • Robocol participated in the European Rover Challenge 2018. In this competition we obtained 23rd place out of 58. A completely new rover with 6-wheel drive and 4 degrees of freedom arm was built. It was called Ucumari.

2019

  • Robocol took part in the European Rover Challenge 2019. We built the REM-U robot. It consisted of a new chassis, ROS programming and a new Rocker Bogie drive system with Honecomb wheels.

  • Robocol developed the Crotalus robotic arm with 6 DoF and carbon fibre manufacturing and 3D printing.

  • Participated in Poland to Mars event at the Polish embassy. The main presenter was the president of the European Space Foundation and there was an opportunity to show Robocol's work to children and adults.

  • We participated in the month of Engineering organised by Uniandinos. The REM-U rover and its different functionalities were presented to the whole community.
